Testimonials

“Alexis nurtured my spirit, my body & heart during my pregnancy, labor & postpartum. Alexis has a beautiful spirit, heart warming and calming presence. I transferred to holistic Midwifery care during my second trimester and I’m so happy I did! I had an completely different experience with Alexis than with my obgyn. My obgyn appts were super quick and it felt cold/sterile and just felt like another patient. When I transferred care to Alexis she made me feel seen, heard and made me feel so excited to give birth! I had an completely different experience with Alexis Vs obgyn.

When I transferred care with Alexis.. I felt prepared to give birth. We had amazing hour long appointments that went over my birth plan, educating me on birth and preparing me for my beautiful home birth. My home birth was the most transformative and heal me in every good way experience! Being able to labor and deliver at home, surrounded by people I loved most and a familiar environment. Made my birth so special!  I couldn’t imagine anyone else to have been the first hands to catch our baby girl earth side. Our daughter Leighton Ivy arrived earthside in the most beautiful, calm, gentle and safe way! So grateful for our wonderful home birth experience with Alexis! We love Alexis so much and cannot recommend her enough!

My birth was a divine & surrender experience and i’m so happy to share this beautiful life moment with our lovely & supportive midwife forever!”

“Alexis is one of the most genuine women I have ever met, whose beauty is matched both inside and out. I feel lucky to not only have had her play such a big role in my journey into motherhood, but that I also get to call her a friend. Her knowledge and warmth made me feel like I had an army of support behind me and gave me a boost of confidence to trust my body and what I am capable of.  Alexis is someone that I immediately felt I could confide in and was comfortable sharing any concerns and doubts without being judged or embarrassed. My partner and I looked forward to every appointment and after our son was born, I truly missed her. She will always be a part of our growing family.”

“I found SYV Midwifery mid pregnancy with my 3rd child after coming across Alexis's Instagram page, and having an intuitive knowing that led me to reconsider my hospital plan, and do a home birth instead.  I loved her energy immediately but had some questions and wasn’t completely decided because my comfort was still what I had previously experienced.  For months she patiently dedicated time to answer my questions as I worked through the details, and I could feel that she would respect my decision either way on what would be best for my daughter and I. Her approach to be supportive and empowering without ego, as well as her extensive clinical knowledge and experience with birth was truly impressive, and I ended up choosing to have my baby at home with her help in the most beautiful and peaceful experience that I will always remember with gratitude.

Alexis is absolutely the one you want in your corner when labor get intense. Her confidence and grounded calm was perfect. I felt completely safe and unbothered, and amazed by her ability to not only keep everyone physically safe, but also gracefully holding space for the sacred moment when a baby is born. Including the spiritual side with practical physical elements created such a special experience for our family and I believe made an incredible difference in my wellbeing postpartum.

I feel grateful to have had such wonderful care with Alexis and her close team of talented birth workers, which I thought was just the best “dream team”.  She is a true gem of a midwife as well as a friend, and the only thing I didn’t enjoy was not seeing her for appointments after our care was done!”

“Alexis Starting is one of the kindest individuals I have ever met. She took such good care of me throughout my pregnancy. I had the pleasure of meeting her for my first home birth in 2020. Even though we had just met the day I went into labor with my first son, she made me feel comfortable and at ease like I had known her the whole time. So, when I had the chance to have her as my midwife for my second home birth I jumped on the opportunity. Alexis really listens and addresses any issues or worries you may have. She is so much more than just a health care provider. By the end of my second pregnancy, it felt like she had become part of our family. Having her guide my family through such a beautiful experience provided a safe space for me to feel comfortable. She even awakened a love for Midwifery in my daughter and quite possibly created a future midwife. I cannot thank her enough for all the support she has given me and my family.”

“How do you put into words the portal of pregnancy, birth and postpartum in which a phenomenal community midwife remained steadfast by your side?

My journey with Alexis began late in my third trimester. As a single and first time mother, I knew little about pregnancy and birth. I knew to trust my body and heart in the decisions I made for the wellbeing and safety of my child and I. My prenatal and postpartum care provided by Alexis was wholesome, holistic, natural and nurturing, what I had hoped it to be. The prenatal visits were nothing like I had imagined--it was as though we went back to our ancestral times of sitting in your community midwife's home sipping local herbal tea, talking stories of ancestors and daily happenings while receiving personalized routine care for myself and my baby's wellness. Her home office was warm and inviting, cozily nestled between green hills and various livestock, chickens, ducks and Snowball the turkey as her neighbors. and I looked forward to birthing my child there. I did research on prenatal nutrition and care, talked with other mothers and family, and  learned so much from Alexis and her beautiful childbirth education tools. She even has toys, books, and unique childbirth education toys for little ones to learn! Her home office felt more like a home for a community to gather, learn, share, and create.

My prenatal and postpartum care involved her actively listening and connecting with me to learn of my cultural and ancestral traditions and practices to which I felt so seen, valued and supported. Alexis thoughtfully and wholeheartedly weaves modern medicine with ancient traditional customs, Western, Eastern and native, the seen and unseen. She dances here with you and Earth Mother and the sacred spiritual realm your child arrives from. Using modern medical practices such a Doppler to hear baby's heartbeat in tandem with her rich collection of ancestral wisdom. Birthing my son in the safety and darkness warmly lit by beeswax candles, with my mother, my small team, was beyond what I could have imagined. I felt I would birth in a pool but baby had other plans and Alexis followed my lead letting me have space and time to go within and with my breath and checking in with me. Alexis held such sacred space to allow me to unfold and surrender to my body and heart to bring forth my child.

When he was born, she caught him with the hand of a mother who had brought forth hundreds of babies. Later, she gave hands on education about my placenta after so I could see firsthand my son's first home and mother bedsides me. During the cord ceremony to burn the placenta cord, she held one candle as I laid resting and held the other. It was just so beautiful seeing everything I had wanted for my birth coming to fruition in front of me. The postpartum visits to my home were so peaceful and gentle as she knew I was resting and healing.

I am so deeply grateful for the education, the sacred space, and the ceremony you helped me co-create for my son to come Earth side. You have truly inspired me to step into the birthkeeper realm with your grace, ease and passion for this sacred work.

Look no further than Alexis for your local community midwife.”

“A client for the rest of my life of Alexis, I am pleased to say how happy I am to have met this incredible human being and passionate about her work as a Midwife. In my experience as her client I should emphasize that this was my second baby, after 13 years of having made the decision to have another one. The truth is I was scared with the idea of experiencing this whole new world. She helped me in moments of insecurity, she got my partner and me the necessary tools for the special day, which was , the birth of our son. and the truth is that it was the most enriching day of our entire life.. We currently enjoy a beautiful and strong 5-month-old baby who wants to eat the world. Thanks to Alexis, my midwife. My family and I are grateful for life and the universe for finding it.. we love you Alexis.”

“I came to Alexis nearing the end of my pregnancy, in search for a birth worker that I not only aligned with, but trusted & felt confident in. With our collective knowledge, Alexis gave us the support we needed to make the decision we felt best for ourselves. And in return, she guided me through the most transformative birth, in the peace of my home with my family. Aside from being right by my side for any emotional or physical help I may have needed, she sat quietly & patiently as I brought my baby into this world. She respected my boundaries & trusted my choices. And after I safely brought my boy earthside, she not only tended to our bodies, but to our souls. She made sure to make that special time a family-centered ceremony of life. She laid on our bed and talked to us about the beautiful process of how our baby came to be & how to take the time to heal. I am forever grateful for her & the place she holds in my heart. It is women like Alexis that pave the path for us to birth in power & that is truly the greatest gift of all.”

“Where do I start? I had the honor of Lexi being with me for both my births. There are many things and moments I remember from my first 23 hr labor, the one that sticks out to me is at hr 21, we took a long break. She stood and held an IV bag up and let it slowly drip fluids into me to replenish my strength for the final stretch. My husband and I lay next to each other with music playing, trying to abandon everything to get a few moments of rest; and it was like she was taking the final watch for us, patiently holding the torch, it’s fire dripping life into me so we could all finish the journey strong. My eyes would blink open from time to time and there she was, a reassuring pillar of aid, beacon of hope. My second birth was the opposite in that it was quite fast, with no time to rest, in fact she arrived at my house with minutes to spare, but in both instances I felt utterly held, supported, championed and she maintained the same level of calm, composure, and joy. I could go on and add so many more details and moments that I’m grateful to her for. Another thing I will mention, were the prenatal and post-natal care she provided were unmatched. I love babies in general, but I’d be tempted to have as many more as possible just so I could go visit her in her adorable office escape, talk, drink tea and have her patiently answer my incessant questions and give guidance and encouragement. I feel she has always gone above and beyond for me and my family. If you want a provider that will make you feel truly held, look no further. Bringing a baby into the world is one of the most sacred things you can do, and the people you surround yourself with during this time are so important. Lexi understands the delicate and powerful process of birth medically and metaphysically. So my advice is: get yourself a care provider who can do both. :)”

“I first met Alexis as a doula for my firstborn more than 6 years ago. I knew we were a good fit with the initial meeting and I felt at ease in her presence right away. With my first son, I had a long labor at home and eventually gave birth in the hospital. Alexis helped me navigate this crucial time in my family's life which ultimately helped me feel confident during labor and delivery. When I got pregnant with my second son, I knew I wanted to navigate a home birth with Alexis, now a midwife. Alexis helped me tap into my intuition and confidence as a second-time mother embarking on a home birth. She was always available for any questions I might have and continued to support me through the whole process. We feel blessed to have had her on this journey and consider her a friend and mentor.”

“We were initially drawn to Alexis because she was geographically close. We had just spent a year commuting to and from LA and finding a provider in the Santa Ynez Valley was gold. We set up our first appointment and over the course of 8 months she turned from a provider into part of our family. Alexis is both highly skilled and knowledgeable in midwifery but also in herbal medicine. She provided options for prenatal and postpartum care that had never been discussed with our first child. She was welcoming to our older child when she needed to accompany us to appointments. She held space during my son’s beautiful home birth and only intervened when it was asked of her. When our magical postpartum moment spiraled into needing more medical attention, Alexis remained with me the entire time, never shifting her attention elsewhere. We could not have asked for a better midwife and friend to support us on this adventure that is growing and birthing a child. We love you and are honored you are part of our birth story!”

— Sara

“Alexis brought so much calm and competency to my prenatal, birth, and postpartum experiences. I always felt incredibly safe in her care and looked forward to my prenatal appointments, as Alexis really took the time to understand how I was feeling and offer both physical and emotional support. I truly believe that her presence and care at my birth is what allowed me to have such a serene experience, where I fully trusted my body and baby. I now recommend Alexis to all of my friends and childbirth prep clients! Love her!”

“Alexis was an exceptional midwife, supporting me through pregnancy and labor to be able to have the physiological home birth I greatly desired. She had been my doula for my first birth which was a hospital induction and the experience was so different than I wanted my birth to be. She talked to me about home birth during one of our postpartum visits and at the time I was unsure if that was the right fit for me. I leaned in to the resources she had provided me about the safety of home birth and what a beautiful experience it could be compared to what I had in the hospital. As soon as I became pregnant with my second baby I text her to initiate prenatal care. I was so pleased with the care she provided me throughout my pregnancy. Alexis practices with a calm demeanor and explains everything thoroughly. She listened to my anxieties and was very empathetic and supportive. She makes sure to get consent for every part of any exam and if there’s anything you’re not comfortable with or don’t want to do she respects that. During my labor she was in the room enough to be aware of how my labor was progressing, but mostly left me undisturbed with my husband and my doula so I could be at peace to work towards a physiologic birth. As things progressed she was in the room reminding me to keep my sounds low and open. When my baby boy decided be born very quickly after a quick transition in the birth pool, Alexis was able to respond quickly and treated us both with such care and respect that’s so evident when I watch back the video of the birth. Every detail of my postpartum checks and newborn exams were also conducted with so much care. I truly appreciate the amount of time the home birth midwifery model of care allows for the client prenatally and postpartum, and certainly during the labor where they never ever rush the process. I went into my pregnancy hoping to be treated a certain way during pregnancy and birth and I can say without a doubt Alexis provided the kind of care that I hoped for and was so lacking in my previous birth. I will always, always be grateful for the birth experience I had while under Alexis’ care and know that it will stay with me and my baby forever.”

“The best most thorough and holistic health care of my life! Throughout my pregnancy I looked forward to my midwifery appointments with Lexi. She covered all the bases of care from helping me dial in my nutrition and beat UTIs without antibiotics to preparing for my birth journey, all while laughing and having a genuinely great time together. She was so gentle and connective with my little one even while she was still in the womb. And then, whengetting her out, Lexi was a patient powerhouse. I was in safe and caring hands the whole time.
Thank you, Lexi.”
